My import failed or trades are missing

The most common reasons a broker import comes up empty, errors out, or skips trades, and how to fix it.

By NKTrades

You import trades under Trading → Accounts with the Import button on the account. If that produces nothing, an error, or missing trades, it's almost always one of these.

Wrong broker on the account

The import reads the file the way the account's broker writes it, never based on the file itself. Upload a Tradovate export to a TopStepX account (or the other way around) and you get no trades, or a made-up P&L. Check the account's broker, or create a new account with the right one.

The file was opened in Excel or Numbers

A spreadsheet that opens and saves the CSV file often rewrites dates and times in a different format. The journal can then no longer read the file: "This file could not be read. Check that you uploaded the CSV export unchanged." Download the report again from your broker and upload it as it is, without opening it first.

The wrong report

For Tradovate you import the Orders report. For TopStepX you can choose: the order export (recommended, with your fills, stop-loss and take-profits) or the trade export (average prices only). Upload the wrong report, or an empty export window, and the import says "No trades found" or "No closed trades found".

The position was still open

A position that is still open at the end of the exported file is skipped: a result that can still change isn't imported. Close the position and export again afterwards.

Times are off (Tradovate)

Tradovate writes the times in the export without a time zone: the journal reads them as Amsterdam time (Europe/Amsterdam). If your Tradovate platform is set to a different time zone, your trades shift by an hour or more and sometimes land on the wrong day. Set the time zone in Tradovate to Amsterdam, revert the import (see below) and import again. This doesn't apply to TopStepX: that export carries its own time zone with every time.

Unknown symbols

The journal knows the common futures. If you trade an instrument that isn't on the list, the import tells you and that trade's P&L may be wrong (with the TopStepX trade export, only the P&L stays correct, because it comes from the broker itself). Correct the trade by hand, or ask us through support to add the instrument.

Undoing an import

Under Trading → Accounts you'll find the Import log tab: one line per upload, even when nothing came out of it. From the menu on a line, choose Revert import: the trades from that file are removed, together with their notes and tags. Positions the import only completed stay.

This can't be undone.

I'm paying for Premium but don't see it

You just checked out, but the dashboard still shows Free. This is usually a different Whop account, or a few minutes' wait.
